The University of Oklahoma
is also known as O.U which is coeducation public research University and this
is located in Norman Oklahoma. The University
of Oklahoma founded in 1890 and it has
existed in Oklahoma Territory near India
Territory for 17 years before two
became state of Oklahoma.
In 2007, the University has 29,931 students admitted and most located at its
main campus in Norman.
The school offers 152 baccalaureates and in master’s programs 160 major at the
first professional level in 20 and 75 doctorate programs employing about 3,000
faculty members. Since 1994 a former of US
senator and Oklahoma governor, David Lyle
Boren has served as president of the University
of Oklahoma.
The school was ranked first in
public University in admission of National Merrill Scholars in the top ten the
graduation of Rhodes Scholars.
The school has won 7 NCAA
Division I National Football Championships it is very well known for athletic
programs. In 2000 and 2003, the women's
softball team won the National championship and also baseball team has won 2
NCAA National championship Since 2002 the gymnastics teams have won the four
national championship games since the introduction of the B.C.S system. In August 1892 the
University first president David Ross Boyd who arrives in normal and the first
students admitted those years. Because of high demand for pharmacists in the
territory in 1893 the University astonished a school of pharmacy. After three
years the University was awarded first degree to a pharmaceutical chemist. In
downtown Normal the Rock Building held the initial classes till first building
of University opened on 1893 September 6. The University only building bummed
down and because of burned destroyed many records of the early University. On a
new building construction began immediately as several other towns hoped to
capitalize by convincing the University to move. The faculty and president Boyd
was not dismayed by the loss.
